Artist reveals his inner mind

Kyaw Kyaw Tun

YOUNG Mandalay artist Ko Jeu will show 30 of his oil paintings at ACD

Gallery in Bahan township until April 11.

All his paintings are abstract style and it is difficult to understand what subject he is trying to expose as he explains it, "I try to illustrate what appears in my inner mind."

His solo show Jeu Born, reveals that his artworks are certainly weird. He mostly uses red, yellow, black and white to catch his running mind.

You will see the fields and brush work of colour in his paintings. He said, "I don't take painting style seriously. What influences me is colour - how to use colours to get what I want on canvas."

Although he has a Master of Arts degree (Myanmarsar), Ko Jeu is a self-taught artist. He has participated in nearly 10 group shows in Yangon's well-known galleries.

"Since I started painting, I tend to create artworks that reveal one's real mind," he said.

He is also interested in music and released an album of his compositions, performed by Iron Cross, in 1996. Titled Her Electric Face, all songs on the album were original songs and his own creation music. How, his attention turned to making paintings.

"Making songs in a studio is not easy and it's not free enough, you know. Players, song writers and I had to make a lot of discussion to get satisfaction on a song. But in painting, I can create paintings at anytime without discussing with anyone. Making paintings is more freedom," he said.

"I love freedom. I always make my paintings with free mind." he added.
